A Different Stay

What Kind of Traveller Are You?

Perhaps you don’t want another branded luxury hotel.

You have travelled.

You have stayed in beautiful hotels.

You know what excellent service looks like.

And perhaps, when choosing somewhere to stay in Cambodia, you are looking for something more difficult to find:

a place with character.

Kampung Kamboja is a small boutique hotel in Siem Reap for travellers who value unique experiences, culture, craftsmanship and personal hospitality.

You might be our kind of traveller if…

You are curious about Cambodia

You don’t want simply to photograph Cambodia.

You want to understand something about it.

You are interested in Cambodian history, culture, food, traditions and the people who make the country what it is.

Perhaps you will browse our books on ancient and modern Cambodian history or Southeast Asian history.

Perhaps an object in your room will make you curious about its origins.

Perhaps you will ask a question over breakfast and end up having a much longer conversation than expected.

We like that.

You want to experience more than the usual Siem Reap

Of course, you want to see Angkor.

But you also wonder what lies beyond the usual tourist itinerary.

You might prefer discovering a local craftsman, eating somewhere we recommend, visiting a village, exploring the countryside or finding somewhere that does not appear on every tourist’s list.

Tell us what interests you.

We will share the places and experiences we think will suit you.

You appreciate craftsmanship

You notice things.

The grain of the Native koki wood featured in the property.

The workmanship in a piece of furniture.

The design of a room.

The history behind an object.

The difference between something made carefully and something mass-produced.

At Kampung Kamboja, craftsmanship is part of the environment.

Among the objects are handcrafted food coverings made in Kampong Chhnang Province by members of the Cham community.

We like objects that give you something to discover.

You appreciate art and design

You don’t necessarily need everything around you to be glittery with shimmering lights.

You’ve don’t need to be in a conventional high-rise tower or resort.

You appreciate aesthetics, individuality and things chosen with care.

Every room at Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel has its own character.

We have intentionally avoided creating rooms that look as though they came from the same catalogue.

The result is a hotel with a more residential, collected feeling.

Music matters to you

Music has long been part of the spirit of Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel.

We have welcomed travelling artists from France, Germany and elsewhere, creating opportunities for artists, guests and hosts to share the same space.

For us, this is part of what makes a hotel feel alive.

You value experiences that cannot simply be bought

You can buy a beautiful room.

You can book a private car.

You can reserve a table at a good restaurant.

But some of the most memorable travel experiences happen because someone knows a place well enough to suggest something you would never have found yourself.

That is the kind of hospitality we enjoy.

We listen to what you like and try to make recommendations accordingly.

You want personal service, not anonymous service

You don’t want to be treated like a number or faceless booking reference.

Neither do we want to treat you that way.

We want to know our guests.

We want to understand what interests you and what you want from your time in Cambodia.

If you want complete privacy, we respect that.

If you want conversation and recommendations, we are here.

If you want an itinerary designed around your particular interests, tell us.

Your stay should feel like yours.

You believe luxury can be something other than luxury

Perhaps the greatest luxury is not having more.

Perhaps it is having something different.

A book about Cambodian history beside the pool.

A garden filled with tropical plants.

A beautifully crafted object with a story.

A recommendation that takes you somewhere unexpected.

A conversation with someone who knows the country.

A room that doesn’t look like every other hotel room.

If those things matter to you, Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel may be the right place for your stay in Siem Reap.

Come for Cambodia.

Stay for the experience at Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel.

ABOUT THE CAMPUS

A living environment designed to soothe the senses.

The Story of Kampung Kamboja

A home created slowly, by hand

Kampung Kamboja began with a simple idea:

to create a home in Cambodia that could also welcome curious travellers.

The property sits in a peaceful village setting outside the busiest part of Siem Reap.

When the land was first acquired, there was very little there.

Just two trees.

What followed was years of work, patience and an enormous amount of care.

Today, the property is surrounded by a mature tropical garden filled with palms, orchids, flowering plants and quiet places to sit.

The transformation is part of the story of Kampung Kamboja.

Creating a garden

The garden was not created overnight.

Plants were sought out individually from nurseries around Siem Reap, gradually turning what had once been a largely empty piece of land into a lush tropical environment.

Today, the garden is one of the defining features of the property.

There are places to sit beneath the trees, terraces overlooking the countryside and quiet corners where you can simply watch the afternoon pass.

The rice fields beyond the property change with the seasons.

Dragonflies move above the water.

Water lilies float in the pool.

And after dark, frogs and other creatures provide the soundtrack.

It is difficult to feel hurried here.

Built with Cambodian craftsmanship

The buildings were developed over many years with Khmer craftspeople from the surrounding community.

The approach was deliberately hands-on.

Native koki wood was used for posts and furniture, and traditional craftsmanship played an important role in creating the character of the buildings.

Rather than producing a standard collection of identical rooms, the spaces were designed with generous proportions, individual details and an emphasis on woodwork and craftsmanship.

This is why the rooms at Kampung Kamboja do not all look alike.

Each has its own personality.

Objects that tell stories

The same philosophy continues inside the hotel.

We have chosen objects and decorative pieces not simply because they look beautiful, but because they have something to say about Cambodia.

Among the collection are handcrafted food coverings made in Kampong Chhnang Province by members of Cambodia’s Cham community.

They are a small example of the remarkable diversity of Cambodian craftsmanship and cultural traditions.

For us, these objects are not museum pieces.

They are part of the living environment of the hotel.

We want guests to notice them, ask questions and perhaps discover something they did not know before arriving.

A small library of Cambodian stories

Curiosity does not stop with objects.

Throughout the property, we keep books covering ancient and modern Cambodian history and the history of Southeast Asia.

They are there for anyone who wants to look more deeply into the place they are visiting.

You might read about the history of Cambodia before visiting Angkor.

You might discover something about modern Cambodian life.

You might become interested in the wider history of Southeast Asia.

Or you might simply find a fascinating book and spend an afternoon reading it beside the pool.

There is no programme.

No requirement.

Just the opportunity to discover more.

Music at Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel

Music has also become part of the story.

We have been honoured to have hosted world class artists from Europe, Asia, and elsewhere for their performances in Siem Reap.

We have always liked the idea that a hotel can be more than accommodation.

It can be a place for cultural exchange.

A place where people meet.

A place where conversations continue long after dinner.

Life around the pool

Some of the best memories at Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel are wonderfully simple.

Sitting on a private terrace and looking over green rice fields.

Finding a quiet place beneath the pool cabana.

Enjoying dinner beside the illuminated pool as the temperature falls and the sounds of the countryside begin to emerge.

These are not experiences that need to be scheduled.

They happen because the setting gives you the time and space to notice them.

A different idea of hospitality

From the beginning, Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel was intended to feel more like a residence than a conventional hotel.

That idea remains important to us.

We want our guests to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing interests and telling us what they would like to discover.

Some guests want to know more about Cambodian history.

Others are interested in food, art, architecture, crafts, music or village life.

Some simply want somewhere beautiful and peaceful to return to after exploring Angkor.

There is no single way to experience Cambodia.

So we do not believe there should be a single way to stay with us.

Why Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel exists

Siem Reap has grown enormously, and there are now many excellent places to stay.

We did not want to create another generic luxury hotel.

We wanted to create something with a stronger sense of place.

A property shaped by a garden that took years to grow.

Buildings made with Cambodian craftsmanship.

Objects with stories.

Books about Cambodia and Southeast Asia.

Music.

Conversation.

And, above all, personal hospitality.

Kampung Kamboja Boutique Hotel is our invitation to experience Siem Reap at a different pace — with curiosity, comfort and a little more connection to the place around you.

Perhaps you arrive as a guest.

Perhaps, by the time you leave, it feels a little more like home.
